Girl Child Protection

Girl Child Protection

PASSA is engaged in educating the girl child within Wajir and Tana River counties as a special strategy. This runs along other efforts like the sanitary pad/menstrual cups provision as well as sex education so as to prevent them from falling into rampant peer vices like child prostitution, drug abuse, relationships with older men, early childhood marriages and truancy.

PASSA has responded to various cases of abuse and neglect and ensured that these girls continue with their education and have the necessary skills to start out a decent living. PASSA fights against the practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as a violation of the rights of the Girl child as well as a risk to their health and wellbeing.

Despite the small level of engagement in the anti-FGM activities by PASSA, we have and continue to support girls who have been disowned by their families after refusing to be mutilated or after being saved from the mutilation, by offering them education and securing their other needs. We have achieved this through partnerships with the government, individuals and corporate donors.
Health

Health

PASSA is carrying out projects in health matters, focusing on containing spread of the diseases, and including interventions such as IEC – Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns; HIV Training and Counseling initiative (HTC); home-based care and some treatment programs.

We have targeted communities that have been devastated by HIV/AIDS and HIV related diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) by providing support to AIDS orphans and their caregivers – ranging from income-generation initiatives (IGA) to feeding peograms.

In the wake of the rising cases of Mental Health in the country, PASSA is also sensitizing the general public, moreso the youth, on mental health.
Food and Food Security

Food and Food Security

PASSA’s agricultural programs respond to the needs of the Wajir and Tana River communities, enabling them to improve their skills and increase their productivity through access to information and modern technology. Our priorities focus on crop productivity and diversification as a means to increase household food security and raise household incomes.

We also seek to promote enhanced family nutrition. Projects provide: capacity building and organizational formation; small-scale business training; improved seeds and tools; training in improved production techniques; post-harvest storage and food processing; and nutrition training.

PASSA has traditionally worked with People living with HIV/AIDS, caregivers and especially with women’s groups by providing assistance in the form of nutrition and with children through the Food for the Hungry programme which saw over 100 children receive daily meals.
